APLA Food Drive 2013
On December 1, 2013 (World AIDS Day), APLA will initiate a massive countywide food drive to secure donations of non-perishable food and personal hygiene items for persons living with HIV/AIDS.
Proper nutrition is so important to the health and well-being of people living with HIV/AIDS. But many thousands of APLA clients struggle to manage a complicated and chronic disease while facing desperate poverty and hunger that even the most hopeful economic recovery will not improve. The Vance North Necessities of Life Program (NOLP) operates 9 food pantries across Los Angeles County (Santa Monica, Lancaster, North Hollywood, Mid-Wilshire, South LA, Long Beach, Pomona, Claremont and Pasadena), where people with HIV/AIDS are able to bring home the equivalent of four bags of groceries every single week at no charge.
Donations collected at the food drive will help supplement the food provided to the clients who visit the food pantries every week.
The following items are being requested for the food drive:
You can download this list here.
Items can be dropped off at any of the following locations:
We are thrilled that the Pavilions stores in Hollywood [map] and West Hollywood [map] have agreed to sell bags of groceries from November 1-December 25 for $10 as part of their Hunger Food Drive and have designated APLA as the beneficiary of these bags of food.
In addition, the Pleasure Chest is generously offering a free gift for donations of food or toiletries through December 31st:
HOW YOU CAN HELP
Individuals and groups are encouraged to conduct their own food drives in the weeks leading up to and after December 1st. This is the best way for you to help us collect much needed food and personal hygiene items.
In addition, we will have a number of locations on December 1st where we will be collecting food donations, and we will also be tabling at a number of grocery stores distributing flyers about food items needed. If you would like to volunteer, please contact Jim Williams at email@example.com.
Are you interested in helping out by dropping off food, spreading the word, or organizing a food drive of your own? Do you have other ideas you would like to share? Click the "I can help!" button below, and let us know!
Or, if you aren't able to purchase groceries but would like to make a donation to our food pantry program or to purchase a Thanksgiving dinner for an APLA client, please visit our online donation form.
