THE T2 TEAM
Kerry Quakenbush, Director of Endurance Events - Kerry has been involved with APLA’s endurance event training program since 2003, and has completed 34 marathons, several half marathons as well as various trail races, relays, and one full IronMan. Kerry became a coach for APLA’s marathon program in 2008 and then became the Director of Endurance Events in January 2009.
Ashley Owen, Team Manager - Ashley began working with T2 in September 2011. She recently obtained her Master’s degree from USC and is a kick-butt Crossfitter and bootcamp instructor. Ashley completed her first full marathon with T2 at the 2012 LA Marathon.
T2 TRAINING PROGRAM
APLA’s endurance event training programs have been training people to complete endurance events since 1998. We train first-timers, experienced athletes, and everyone in between. We offer a customized comprehensive training program for your individual fitness level. You’ll train and improve as you move through the program by working with peers in a group that shares the same fitness level as you. T2’s training programs include:
Many people who join one of our programs have never been active before, and 98% of these individuals actually finish their race because they follow the instruction of T2’s expert coaching staff. Also, many of our first timers are a bit nervous when they first join the program, but they quickly learn that our entire staff is here to help everyone succeed. The nervousness goes away very quickly when one sees the incredible support of staff and other T2 participants.
The funds you raise benefit AIDS Project Los Angeles (APLA), one of the nation’s largest AIDS service organizations, which offers direct care to low-income people living with HIV/AIDS, HIV prevention and testing, and vigorous advocacy on HIV/AIDS-related public policy issues. With the help of T2’s fundraising team, you’ll meet and exceed your fundraising goal. We will help you every step of the way!
How much money do I need to raise?
There are fundraising minimums associated with each T2 training program:
But don’t stop there! The “5K Club” is a T2 program that is open to all participants. The goal of this program is to get each athlete to try and raise $5,000 for APLA during their training. Special incentives will be granted to people who reach this goal. There is no penalty if you do not raise $5,000, but T2 hopes that everyone will join this incentive program and at least try to hit $5,000. Every member of the 5K Club will have this special badge added to their fundraising page.
How do I raise money?
We’ll teach you how. Our T2 staff is trained to support you in your fundraising efforts. Each staff member and many of the coaches have raised thousands of dollars as participants in this program. We offer many tools, including:
Where will the money I raise go?
The money you raise stays local, helping people in your community. Your fundraising dollars will provide food, housing assistance, in-home care, dental services, and much more to thousands of low-income people who rely on APLA for these essentials. The donations you collect will also support APLA’s HIV prevention network — the largest of its kind in L.A. County — that aims to stop the epidemic where it hits hardest. You’ll provide care, comfort, and so much more to Angelenos who are affected by HIV/AIDS.
Why do I need to raise money?
T2 is both a training and fundraising program, and each holds equal importance. In order to provide you with a comprehensive training program to prepare you for your event, we must raise the money required to pay for all the services you will receive to meet your fundraising and training goals. Once you register and begin your T2 journey, you will begin to see the many services and support features we offer as part of this program. And you’ll hear from clients at APLA — whose lives you’re changing through your efforts. We keep our costs low, so the most amount of money goes to fund the fight against AIDS.
What happens if I don’t raise the money?
We will work with you in every way possible to help you raise the money required by your event’s fundraising deadline. Ensuring that you meet your fundraising goals is one of our top priorities! We have a convenient structure in place for you to place any outstanding balance on a debit/credit card. Then, you will have up to three months after your chosen event to raise this balance, and we’ll credit back your account for what you raise up to the amount that you were charged. With the support of our fundraising team and tools, you’ll easily meet — and even exceed — your fundraising goal.
2014 LA MARATHON

TEAM TO END AIDS (T2) is proud to be an official charity of the 2014 ASICS LA Marathon! In 2013, the TEAM raised $171,000 for AIDS Project Los Angeles while bringing awareness to APLA and the services the agency provides to roughly 10,000 APLA clients each year. T2 is one of the largest official charities of the LA Marathon, and in 2014 we aim to be the biggest fundraising group. Please join us as we run through the streets of LA, West Hollywood, Beverly Hills and Santa Monica on race day, which is March 9, 2014. If you enjoy running like we do, then you have to be a part of your hometown marathon!
2013 JOLLY ST. KNICKERS RUN
Bare your frankincense and myrrh and join us for the second annual Jolly St. Knickers Run through Beverly Hills to support the APLA Vance North Necessities of Life Program (NOLP) Food Pantries. We want to find out who’s naughty AND nice!
TRIATHLON & HALF IRONMAN

Registration for T2’s summer triathlon training season is now closed, but we may have additional race entries for athletes who are already experienced in triathlon. The Nautica Malibu Triathlon (International Distance) is one of the most beautiful races in Southern California and a must for all triathletes. Training begins on May 18. Race day is September 7. You will swim in the Pacific Ocean, ride along beautiful Pacific Coast Highway and run along the stunning coastline of Zuma Beach. This is T2’s third year participating in this unique event in Malibu and we are thrilled to be returning.
